If you don't know what to eat at .... Midvalley / The Gardens

Well....we go to Midvalley and the Gardens regularly. And honestly speaking, there is nothing much there to look forward to since we have tried almost everything there. Some restaurants are just a bit pricey while others usually have a long queue of people waiting for a table (which baffles me 'cos the food ain't that great!).

So, one Sunday (a lazy Sunday) when we went to Borders, we decided to drop by Food Republic (food court) in the Gardens, 'cos we just didn't know what to eat for lunch!

The food court is relatively deserted on Sundays so plenty of seats to choose from. We sat near the window with a 'great' view of the Klang river! However, ventilation is a bit poor, so choose a table near the back of the food court or else you'll leave the food court with all kinds of cooking smells stuck to your clothes.

We came across a Thai food stall (Lanna Thai) which sells "Famous" pineapple fried rice. They claimed to have sold >10,000 plates of pineapple fried rice. There is a running number for the number of plates of pineapple fried rice posted at the cashier. Just go and check it out for the heck of it! However, i think they have stopped counting, good sign? Perhaps of too many plates being sold? :)

So, okie, i ordered a Pineapple Fried Rice set, which costs RM 10.40 (including tax). It includes a plate of Pineapple Fried Rice, Tom Yam Soup, mango kerabu (salad) and a slice of watermelon.

The Pineapple Fried Rice looked really good with some raisins and fried shallots sprinkled on top and served in a half pineapple shell. The rice was well seasoned with tumeric (which i found out the hard way, as it stained my handbag from a few grains of rice!) and had a smoky flavour; which was quite appetizing. Pineapple bits were found in the rice in moderate amounts. Overall, not fantastic but quite satisfying.

The Tom Yam soup was sour and salty enough to make it a pretty good accompaniment to the rice.

The Mango Kerabu was very sour that day, i wish they sprinkled more ground peanuts on it, but i like sour foods, so it really whet my appetite!

The real plus point was the watermelon! It was really sweet and a little dry (just the way i like it!). Unfortunately, they only gave a paper thin slice which was not enough to 'cuci mulut'.

My hubby decided to go with Ayam Penyet (RM 9.25 ). Which was a disappointment except for the really pedas sambal. The chicken was too dry, tasteless and miserably small. The vegetables (long beans and kangkung) were merely steamed and looked and tasted limp. The minuscule slice of tempe was soft, tasteless and looked past its 'good to eat' date!

Overall my meal was good value for money! Nice for a lazy afternoon and you are feeling hungry without breaking your pocket.
