Light Lunch @ Pavillion KL

It seems that we have been only reviewing food in food courts! Let me tell you that this is merely a coincidence. Unlike our neighbours in the little island down south, we are not fans of the food court neither do we frequent food courts in any notable frequency!

Well....but this time we did frequent a food court. There is a stall called Thye Hong which sells great oyster omelette! Well, in our opinion, one of the best in KL. Hands down, Malacca, Bunga Raya, has the best oyster omelette in Malaysia! But if you can't make it there, and have a craving, Pavilion Food Republic food court is the place to go.

The oyster omelette is served on a piece of grease paper, thick with succulent oysters both big and small and topped with lots of coriander and spring onions! Unlike other oyster omelettes, the starch content is kept at minimum so you get to chew lots of fluffy, fragrant egg instead of chunks of gooey solidified starch balls. The oysters are still juicy and fresh, just nicely sauteed without overcooking and covered with delicious egg.

Be prepared to queue for your oyster omelette, as there is always a long queue. A sign that it tastes good! Their other offerings such as fried Hokkien prawn noodles served on palm leaf(?) is quite nice also.

At RM8.00, the oyster omelette is nice for a side dish or light snack for 2 to share.

To give a little more substance to our light lunch, we ordered Ginger and Onion Beef Kuay Teow from Little Wok, which is also a stall in the food court. On the wall, beside the cashier, there is a short write up on the founding of Little Wok, which will keep you entertained while waiting for your food. It is very popular and serves a variety of food in little stainless steel woks, as the name suggests. Cheap and satisfying at RM6.90 per dish. The ingredients are quite fresh and tastes pretty good but after eating you get the heaty feeling in your throat due to the frying on high heat.

Next up, we dropped by My Honeymoon Dessert, just at the beginning of the food court. We had tried the My Honeymoon Dessert in Hong Kong at Sheung Wan, and was surprised to see it open branches in Malaysia. The menu is different from the Hong Kong outlets but the decor is similar. We ordered Mango Magic (RM12) and Durian Love (RM12) each, which are basically flavoured shaved ice with condiments such as magic pearls (translucent round thingys which burst when you bite on it and is filled with flavoured liquid), red bean, herbal grass jelly etc.

The shaved ice was very well flavoured, with the Durian Ice tasting just like real durian! The mango ice tasted like it was flavoured with natural mangoes and as such was quite tasteless. Overall a nice place to get some interesting desserts and to unwind.
